A basic life support (BLS) ambulance is for patients who are stable but cannot travel safely by car, after surgery, with limited mobility, or needing to lie flat on a stretcher.
When this may be appropriate

When BLS is enough, and when it isn't
BLS suits stable patients. If the patient needs close monitoring, continuous infusions or ventilatory support, a higher level of ambulance is needed. If you are unsure, ask the treating doctor.
