Beyond roughly 500 kilometres, an ambulance journey changes character. Fatigue, oxygen logistics, night driving and meal-and-medication timing become as important as the medical equipment itself. Long distance ambulance service is our discipline for these routes: two-driver relay so the vehicle never waits on a tired driver, oxygen carried with deep reserve, and halts planned rather than improvised.
From Hyderabad, the common long corridors run north on NH-44 towards Nagpur and Delhi, east on NH-65/NH-16 towards Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata, west on NH-65 towards Pune and Mumbai, and south on NH-44 towards Bengaluru and Chennai. Each corridor has known good halt points and hospital cover, which we build into the route plan before departure.

How we plan it
We plan long routes backwards from the patient: how many hours can they comfortably travel before a halt, which medications are due when, and where the crew can safely stop for both. The written plan — route, halts, en-route hospitals, expected arrival — is shared with the family before departure so everyone knows what the next 24–36 hours look like.
Frequently asked questions
Does the ambulance stop overnight on very long routes?
Usually no — with a two-driver relay the vehicle continues through the night while drivers alternate. If the patient’s condition benefits from a rest halt, we plan one at a location with hospital cover nearby.
How do you manage food and medication on a 24-hour journey?
The attendant keeps the medication schedule from the discharge summary and administers or reminds on time. Meal and refreshment halts are planned around the patient’s diet; families travelling along can carry preferred food.
What is the longest transfer you undertake by road?
We run road transfers across the country — Hyderabad to Delhi, Kolkata or Chandigarh and comparable distances. Beyond that, we will honestly discuss whether a train ambulance or air ambulance serves the patient better.
