The route, halts and expected arrival window are shared with the family before departure.
Choosing the right ambulance
A stable patient going home may only need a basic life support ambulance with an attendant. A patient on continuous oxygen needs oxygen capacity sized for the distance. A patient needing close monitoring or ventilatory support needs an ICU or ventilator configuration and appropriately trained crew. The treating hospital's advice decides this, not the booking form.
Arriving at the destination
Before departure, confirm the receiving hospital has a bed and knows the expected arrival time. Keep the discharge summary, prescriptions and investigation reports in one folder that travels with the patient for handover.
