How Oxygen Is Managed During Ambulance Transport
For patients on supplemental oxygen, the most important question on any journey is whether the supply will last, with margin for delays.

The basic calculation
Oxygen needed = prescribed flow rate (litres per minute) × journey time (minutes), plus a reserve for traffic, halts and unexpected delays. On a long route, the reserve matters as much as the base amount.
What to tell the ambulance team
- The prescribed flow rate
- Whether oxygen is continuous or only as needed
- Whether the flow rate has changed recently
- Pickup and destination, so duration can be estimated
Oxygen after arrival
If the patient will need oxygen at home, arrange the home supply before leaving Hyderabad so there is no gap at handover.
