Carry the patient's medical documents and identity proof for the patient and family. The vehicle's own permits are the operator's responsibility.
The receiving end
Confirm the receiving hospital or home is ready, and share the expected arrival window with the person meeting the ambulance. If the destination language differs from the family's, a local contact helps at handover.
Distance and the mode of travel
For very long interstate journeys and unstable patients, air transfer may be safer. The treating team should advise; road transfer is often chosen for stable patients or when the family wants to travel together.
